Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) comes from the serum portion of the blood, which contains platelets. The platelets contain high levels of growth factors. When injected into hair follicles, the growth factors in platelets increase blood flow to help stimulate new hair follicles to grow.

What to Expect During Your Treatment
First you will have your blood drawn. Then your blood will be placed in a centrifuge machine. After about 10 minutes the centrifuge machine will separate your blood into three layers: platelet-poor plasma, platelet-rich plasma and red blood cells. The platelet-rich plasma is then drawn into a syringe and injected into the areas you would like to increase hair growth.

Does PRP Treatment for Hair Loss Actually Work?
PRP has been in use since the 1980's to help increase cell activity to trauma areas for healing tendons, ligaments, and muscles in athletes and patients. The same increased cell activity is showing success on other areas of the body such as the scalp for increased hair growth. Under the hand of a trained physician like Dr. Levine you may use PRP in an attempt to regrow hair. About 74% of RealSelf patients feel PRP for hair growth is worth it. Results may vary based on a number of individual factors.
